The eyes have it

The eyes have it

8 week online workshop – Getting to know you

This is one I took today of my little miss feeding some Koi at the rose farm up the road from us (one of her favourite outings!) If I try to get her to look at me on purpose she tends to pull silly faces so most face on shots I have of her show her looking away from the camera, but I like the effect this has. I love the tight focus and really shallow depth of field that my 50mm lens produces, and I’m just drawn to those sparkling eyes (no shame about my complete mother bias!).

Outdoors on a sunny day although in shade but next to reflecting water so ISO 200, 50mm, f/2.5 1/800. Shot on aperture priority, which I use about 80% of the time.

I live in the beautiful hills of Perth with my husband and three year old daughter. I have degrees in history and law but am staying home for a few years to raise my gorgeous little girl. I love creative pursuits, be it creative play with my three year old, sewing, or my new passion - photography. I've owned a DSLR for about 6 years but have only just started to really explore it's capabilities (and mine!).

  1. Gorgeous Siobhan. Great d.o.f., lovely colour, eyes are sharp and they have lovely catchlights! I truly believe that capturing the moment, the expressions and the memories are far, far more important than eye contact. A lot of my favourite shots are of kids that are looking anywhere but at the camera.

  2. Beautiful photo….your daughter’s eyes are the real focus of this picture and grabbed my attention straightaway!
