Hello and Welcome to Please Don’t Say Cheese [Learn]

If you are new to this site and it’s courses and workshops here are some things you need to know and some things you should do:

you should know:

what’s included?

A totally secure membership site where you access your weekly lessons, share your images for feedback, ask questions, interact with other members (and me). Plus you will be invited to participate in a monthly Q&A online webinar where you can submit questions and images for more in-depth feedback (Book your spot here). This is also where you can see a live demonstration of photo editing using various popular editing systems (including the free ones).

how does it work?

Your lessons will be released to you:

  • long courses (moments that matter) every 7 days
  • short courses (camera basics, understanding exposure, photo editing magic and specialist courses) every day

and at that time you’ll have access to all of the topics related to that lesson (note the dates listed on your lessons are based on Sydney, Australia time zone – UMT +10).

do I have to start immediately

Absolutely not! You can start the lessons whenever you want and take as long as you like to complete them (as long as your membership is active).

how long do I have membership to the site?

Your membership lasts for 3 or 6 months (depending on your membership level) and you have full access during that time. You can also extend your membership for even longer if you wish.

do I have to share my photos?

Not if you don’t want to. However, it’s a great way to get feedback and suggestions on your photos and to gauge your progress.

will my photos be seen by anyone outside of the membership site?

No! This is a secure site and only members have access to it. However, I may sometimes ask your permission to “show off” your work on Facebook, Pinterest or my blog as part of my marketing efforts. This will not be done without your permission.

how much time will the lessons take me?

Photography is like any skill, the more time you put in, the better you will get. You could read through your lessons in about 10-20 minutes and be done. But without practice you’ll never become a better photographer. My recommendation is to practice what you learn in every lesson – not just once but until you become completely comfortable with it. This may be half an hour a week or it may be much more.

what should I do if I have questions?

General questions, comments and anything you want to share can be posted in the comments – “Leave a Reply” – below each lesson topic but keep in mind that these are not private and can be seen by anyone participating in the workshop. Posting and commenting is a great way to interact with others in this workshop. If you have a question that you don’t want to share with the the group you can use the contact form on this site.

when will I get a reply or feedback on my images?

I will dedicate a lot of time each week to supporting you through your workshop or challenge. However, it may take me up to 48 hours to respond to your messages and requests (especially on weekends). Be patient, I will be in touch as soon as I can.

you should do:

be a real person

Please take the time to add a profile photo (avatar) and some details about you (bio) so we can get to know you a little bit better. It’s also nice if you also use your real first name as the display name so that we know we’re taking to “Robyn” and not “kidphotog435”. You can update your profile here.

participate, engage, share

You will have every opportunity to share your own images, ask questions and ask for feedback. But this should not be one way. All members are encouraged to comment and give feedback on images and respond to other member’s comments and questions. The more participation and sharing, the more everyone will grow and develop their skills. As a general rule try to reply or comment two or three times to someone else for every post you do.
