Snow Day

Snow Day

It was nap time for my twins so I took my 3 year old daughter out during our ice/snow fall to play. This was the first time she had actually PLAYED in the snow. I loved seeing the “cheat” about using auto to find the camera’s settings then using those settings in Manual mode and adjusting accordingly. I had done this before a few times to get a feel for my lighting. Most of these just needed a little brightening and cropping after loading them on the computer, but really not too bad.

27 years old from Saint Paul MN (US). I have a 3 year old daughter, a son in heaven who would be 2, and 1 year old identical twin sons! I've been with my husband for 10 years but we've only been married since August 2013. I have always loved photography and just 5 months ago upgraded from my point n shoot to a canon t3 DSLR. I'm in love!

  1. Oh well done Samantha. Shooting in snow is often very challenging as the bright snow can trick your camera and throw your exposure way out. These are lovely and you’re daughter is gorgeous.

    • Thank you Robyn! I had a bunch of shots come out over exposed… But about 1/2 weren’t. We have snow for 1/3 of the year, so I have to get used to it!

      • We’re going to do a lesson on exposure compensation soon that should help you a lot in snow.

  2. Ohhhh snow. lucky you! Looks like lots of fun.
Do you do your lightening and cropping in Photoshop?

    • Yeah snow… This is actually our first real snowfall this year, usually we have much more by now. I do my lighting and sharpening in Digital Photo Professional – which came with my camera. I do my cropping (and everything else when I do it) in photoshop elements…

  3. oh how lovely, would love to be in the snow today 38 outside and still climbing but thats summer in australia….
