Sad Bird Feeder

8 week online workshop
lesson 4
4: The Colour of Light.

I did this activity last week but never got a chance to upload them. It’s still super cold so I decided to shoot from inside. When I looked out I saw my vacant and empty hummingbird feeder. Chose that as my topic. It was interesting to me to see the effect on the color throughout the day as I changed my WB settings. The last 3 were taken around noon time. I did an attempt at the custom WB using a thick sheet of plain white paper. That was where I learned the most because I had no idea how to do that. I think I did fairly well (1st photo) in the afternoon.

I would have liked to get better quality of these, but we are in negative temps (F not C) and I was not going outside that many times that day! But considering I was shooting through a window and a screen, not too bad. Plus I was focusing on the color anyway.

  1. Well done Samantha. I must admit I have been quite lazy about white balance lately so I did this exercise myself recently 🙂 Custom white balance can be awesome in difficult lighting conditions. It’s not something you need to do all of the time but it’s a skill well worth having.
Good job with persevering with the lessons even in those challenging weather conditions. Brrrrr!!!!
