Mr Squirrel is in my Wheelie Bin

8 week online workshop
lesson 3
Topic 3: Room to move and Rule of Thirds

My friend Mr Squirrel gets in my trash… I finally sat in my car (while the kids napped) and was really close, he wasn’t running! Anyway, this gave me a chance to practice many of the things I’ve learned this week: Rule of thirds, room to move, get closer, etc all in one shoot. Mr Squirrel and I are becoming good friends. Even though the focus isn’t quite right, I think these are too cute.

These were all taken at 100 ISO, f8, 1/250ss.

27 years old from Saint Paul MN (US). I have a 3 year old daughter, a son in heaven who would be 2, and 1 year old identical twin sons! I've been with my husband for 10 years but we've only been married since August 2013. I have always loved photography and just 5 months ago upgraded from my point n shoot to a canon t3 DSLR. I'm in love!

  1. Too cute Samantha. He’s been a very helpful subject for you. Well done with getting all of those rules practiced in one one go. Yes the focus is a little bit out but not very much and they are still good photos. I think the black and white is nice but could do with a bit of tweaking (contrast and tones) because he blends into the bin a little bit. We’ll be starting some editing topics very soon – including black and white conversions.
Let’s see if you can get Mr Squirrel to come back when you want to do the eyes lesson topic 🙂

    • I’ll be looking forward to the editing lessons, I’m thinking mr squirrel and I will be really good friends before summer hits us 🙂

  2. Cute pics of the squirrel! The hole in the bin frames the squirrel’s face as well…drawing your attention to its bright eye!

  3. Too cute, and lovely composition. Mr Squirrel is so considerate for being such a good model for you all the time.
