I really like this

I really like this, even though it’s dark. But it’s dark because of the dark brown wall in the background, but I think she still stands out against it. It was shot in good light so ISO 400, f/5 1/250.

I live in the beautiful hills of Perth with my husband and three year old daughter. I have degrees in history and law but am staying home for a few years to raise my gorgeous little girl. I love creative pursuits, be it creative play with my three year old, sewing, or my new passion - photography. I've owned a DSLR for about 6 years but have only just started to really explore it's capabilities (and mine!).

  1. Well done Siobhan. Very nicely exposed. Good use of the rule of thirds. No “cheese” to be seen! And you’ve nailed the focus – the focus falls on the eye closest to the camera/viewer. All in all, a very nice image. I look forward to seeing more from you.

  2. Thanks Robyn. I cropped it down a bit on your advice to get her eyes a bit closer to that top third and it works well. My little digger 😉

  3. Hi Siobhan, I’m new to this course and just starting to read through the first lesson. I love this photo. I agree with you that it doesn’t matter that the wall is dark behind your daughter. This really makes her stand out.
