help! can it be saved?

before-overexposed

Sally asked this question in the Camera Basics Challenge: “it’s overexposed… is there anything I can do to make it better?”.

And here’s my answer…

A little but not a lot.

Lightroom highlight clipping

Unfortunately this image is seriously overexposed and not just a little. Turning on the highlight clipping warning in Lightroom (which shows the areas of overexposure as red) you can see just how much of the image is overexposed. It is possible to bring back some of the detail but in it’s most extreme blown out areas there is no detail to bring back – it’s just pure white.

So playing with Levels, Curves, Contrast and Exposure in Photoshop this the best I could do.

  1. I think you did a good job Robyn.
Lovely photo Sally. It would be great if you could set it up the same and take it again. I think it would be worth it.

  2. I think it would look stunning in black and white.
