Growing UP

8 week online workshop

lesson 1: topic 3: focus Activity 1

I love this photograph because when I look at it I see a little boy who is not so little any more. It captured a moment as I saw him growing up
Canon EOS 600D
f/8
Exposure 1/250
ISO 100
Focal Length 78 mm

5-800x533-2

I'm a SAHM of three. I have been home educating for 15 years. Photography is a new hobby after being gifted a DSLR two years ago. Am wanting more control over my pictures so I don't have to take loads of photographs to get one good image.

  1. Welcome back, Chareen. That is one of the magical things about photography – being able to capture those moments so that you never forget how you felt at the time. And this is a lovely moment captured. As this was a focus exercise I’ll give feedback on that aspect of this photo. I’m not 100% sure, but it looks to me like your focus is sharpest on his shoulder rather than his face/eyes. When you’re taking a portrait you should make sure that the face and eyes are the part of the image that are sharpest. This is sometimes challenging so focus is something you need to practice over and over again. Perhaps try this shot again (if you can) because everything else about it is lovely.
