Grass seed in the wind

Grass seed in the wind

8 week online workshop
lesson 1
#3 – Focus

I went with Aperture priority for this activity, and think maybe I made the wrong decision. I had terrible problems getting the camera to even take a picture in the various AF modes. One Shot took a picture but it was all blurry, and AI Focus and AI Servo wouldn’t take the image until I had held the button down for a long period of time or pressed the button multiple times. In the end I got frustrated and switched to Manual Focus because that is what I am comfortable using. Cop out I know. I will practice with the other modes again and see if I can do better with a different subject. 🙂

  1. Hi, I know this is Sarah and not Alice. For some reason this post is saying Alice is the author. This happened once before. I’ll see if I can fix it and then come back with some feedback. Sorry Sarah

  2. OK fixed now. Now we know this was Sarah.
If the grass was moving One Shot would have been challenging because you’d have to keep refocussing constantly. The other modes should have worked better though. Switching to manual focus is NOT a cop out. With this workshop you are learning all of the settings so you can find the best one for any particular situation. For you in this situation is was manual! The only reason we haven’t covered manual focus is because it’s a lot harder. We’ll get to it later though. I do suggest you keep practicing with the auto focus modes though because they will make your life a lot easier when you’ve mastered them,

  3. Went down to what is left of our dam this morning and had another go. This time I was able to take pictures of pelicans coming in to land using all of the Auto Focus modes. Much happier. Thanks!
