These were some of the images from the bunny photo session (I can’t bring myself to say ‘bunny shoot’) that I set up to get a shot for this year’s Easter card etc. I did the same thing for Christmas last year and I just loved the shots from that, too. Heather is quite cooperative about it as it involves dressing up and what three year old girl doesn’t like a bit of dressing up? (or what thirty year old girl 🙂 ) So she is pretty happy to smile and play along with the theme, at least for a while! The last picture shows what happens when the three year old has had enough of this, plonks down in a pile of leaves to pout, and then Mummy has the audacity to keep taking photos.
These were taken in the middle of the day on that rare beast around here, a properly overcast day. I tried to keep her still facing the sun (even though the sun was behind clouds) and we used the reflector for fill light.
Photo 1 is my favourite, she was even taking posing directions and smiling beautifully and naturally. ISO 200 f/2.8 1/200. This is the image that will be our easter card this year.
Photo 2 is a collage made of a few taken in series with a bunch of expressions. She was telling me an elaborate story about a cheeky easter bunny. She was standing in the branches of the fig tree so I bumped the ISO up a bit to compensate. All ISO 400 f/2.8 1/160 – 1/200.
Photo 3 the egg collection, because every easter bunny needs a good basket full of eggy goodness ISO 400 f/3.2 1/1600.
Photo 4 is the “over it” bunny, ISO 400 f/2.8 1/1600.
It was heaps of fun and I ended up with lots of pictures I really love, and I love how they go together and can be used to tell a story.

I live in the beautiful hills of Perth with my husband and three year old daughter. I have degrees in history and law but am staying home for a few years to raise my gorgeous little girl. I love creative pursuits, be it creative play with my three year old, sewing, or my new passion - photography. I've owned a DSLR for about 6 years but have only just started to really explore it's capabilities (and mine!).

  1. Happy almost Easter Siobhan. I can’t believe its almost here. It feels like yesterday that it was Christmas. And what a great opportunity to do the storytelling activity. I love it when people use their images for something like cards so that they are shared.
Lovely images with great colour. I love the contrast between the blue ears and the green leaves. This makes the images really pop! Your exposure and use of light is also really good – yay for overcast days.
The only questions I have is how sharp are the eyes and do you have nice catchlights? I can’t tell from the images at this size.
The thing I love most is that you’ve really captured her personality. Well done.

  2. p.s. I’ve deleted the duplicate post

  3. My little bunny is very excited about Easter, she keeps asking “is it Easter tomorrow?” I’ve just ordered the cards and they look so cute.
Catchlights are there and I’m happy with the sharpness of the eyes. Her eyes are so very dark so they can be hard to see. I would have liked brighter ones but it was very overcast and she was moving around a lot, I was more concerned with just getting the pictures!!

  4. These are really lovely. The contrast of the blue ears / green leaves / and Heather’s white blouse evokes a balmy feel to me. Almost like spring, though I know we are the wrong hemisphere for that. Grumpy bunny is awfully cute as well!
